Referral Guidelines
All patients must have a referral prior to treatment.
Medical Assessment
To ensure patient safety, our Gastroenterologists will assess all patients over the age of 80 & all patients on Warfarin and Clopidogrel (or alternate blood thinning medications, excluding Aspirin) at consultation on a day prior to the proposed procedure.
Contraindications to Open Access Endoscopy Patients
- under 16 years attending without parent
- under 14 years
- with a BMI over 35
- with unstable medical condition such as emphysema
- with significant immobility or with difficulty transferring to our beds.
If the patient has any contraindications then an appointment is made for review prior to endoscopy for assessment and risk minimisation.
