FibroScan®

FibroScan® is a test that can measure the degree of inflammation and scarring , fibrosis and cirrhosis in your liver,  I is  a quick, simple and non-invasive test and gives immediate results.  The test is painless and does not require any sedation.  A FibroScan® probe is placed on the abdomen.  The probe will trigger sound waves that pass across the liver to give readings of liver inflammation and scarring.  The whole process takes about 15 minutes.

PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS

A FibroScan® is a test that can measure the degree of inflammation and scarring in your liver. It is a quick, simple and non-invasive, test and gives immediate results.

The test is painless, so you will not require any anaesthetic or sedation. A Nurse/Doctor will ask you to lie on an examination couch with your right arm above your head. A FibroScan® probe is placed on the abdomen. This will trigger sound waves that pass across the liver to give readings of liver inflammation and scarring. The whole process takes about 15 minutes.

Precautions:

If you are pregnant or have an implantable device, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator you should not have a FibroScan®. FibroScan® does not replace liver ultrasound for the detection of lesions.

Before test:

FAST 3 hours before test.

You should take your usual prescription medications leading up to your test.

Reception staff will refer you back to this patient information sheet if you phone.
