Dr Nicole Yap graduated from Melbourne University, Australia, and trained for 4 years in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, completing a fellowship in General Surgery. Her Breast Oncoplastic work was augmented by further training at the European Institute of Oncology, Milan, and participating at the Breast Oncoplastic Workshop Royal College of Surgeons, London. Dr Yap has honed her skills by working with leading breast oncoplastic surgeon, Dr Krishna Clough at the Clinique Bizet in Paris.
She is involved in surgical education as Educator and Examiner of Medical Students of the Monash Medical Department, and is co-editor of McGraw's "Surgery On-Call". Dr Yap has presented at the International Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS) in both Sydney and Berlin, and also at the European Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EPRAS) in Vienna. She has more recently presented at the 1st ISPRES (International Society of Plastic Regenerative Surgery) Congress, Rome, and BIT’s 5th Annual World Congress of Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cells Guangzhou, China.
Dr Yap has also spoken at a number of conferences on Breast Oncoplastic surgery, role of genetic testing and the "Jolie Effect - role of prophylactic mastectomy and reconstructive options". These include, ACCMA National Conference , Update on Cancer, Kuala Lumpur 2013, and Meet the Experts, Utah, 2014, the Family Health Conference, organised by Dorevitch , 2013, and ACMAV, Current Controversies in Medicine Conference 2011 and 2013.
Dr Yap is passionate about the education of women in early detection of breast cancer and the advances in breast surgical treatment. She has been guest speaker at Bendigo Bank's Wealthy Healthy & Stylish Women Workshop, Emerald Community Girls Night In, Bank of Melbourne Staff Education Seminars, and Survivors of Breast Cancer Breakfast, Mulgrave Country Club, 2011. She has also been interviewed on Radio Australia, and 3MDR 97.1FM.
